Sword Art Online gets live-action TV series in America

The American independent production company Skydance Television has acquired the live-action television rights worldwide for Sword Art Online (SAO) in cooperation with Kadowawa Corp. As announced by the company, SAO will be transferred to the small screen, planning to fast-track the launch of a live-action television series, in order to air as soon as possible.

The script will be written by Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar, Terminator Genisys), while in the executive production we meet David Ellison, Dana Goldberg and Marcy Ross along with Laeta Kalogridis. She reported that the inventive and masterful narrative of SAO has been an inspiration for her in recent years. We should note that Laeta was the one who penned drafts for the live-action Alita: Battle Angel and Ghost in the Shell films.

After the TV series, the company Skydance Television also plans a virtual reality experience. As the head of Skydance Media said, Ellison, mentioned they plan to expand their activities across their business verticals.
