Saint Seiya qets live-action Hollywood film
A Hollywood live-action film has taken the green light for Masami Kurumada's manga Saint Seiya. The news ware spread by Eiga.com news website, while Toei Animation confirmed that it is working on an English language live-action film. Toei Animation and A Really Good Film Company (ARGF), a Chinese distribution company, are collaborating for its production.
The film will be directed by Polish director Tomek Baginski, while ARGF’s Jeffrey Chan and Toei Animation’s Yoshi Ikezawa and Joseph Chou will serve as producers. The executive producers will be Kurumada, creator of the manga, Toei Animation’s Kozo Morishita, Convergence Entertainment's Tim Kwok and Miguel Faura.
The story follows Seiya, a mortal who has trained to earn the sacred cloth of Pegasus. He joins the Saints, a group of fighters who must defend the universe and the reincarnation of the goddess Athena.
Kurumada launched the Saint Seiya manga in 1986 and it was completed in 1990. Its story has inspired several television anime, OVAs, anime movies and spinoff manga. The original series has 35 million copies in print, while the spinoff manga titled Saint Seiya: Saintia Shō is getting a new anime.
