George Morikawa's Hajime no Ippo manga did not appear in this year's 27th issue of Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine, as originally planned. The reason is Morikawa’s poor physical condition. The magazine stated that its creator is in a recovery process and plans to continue the manga in the 29th issue, which will be released on June 21st.

Morikawa launched the manga in 1989, and his story has inspired three television anime series, an OVA project, a special TV and a PlayStation 3 game. The latest television anime series premiered in 2013.
