Ghost in the Shell gets new anime
One week after the Greek premiere of the Ghost in the Shell live-action film, Kodansha and Production I.G come to announce that a new anime based on Masamune Shirow's Ghost in the Shell manga has gotten the green light. Details about the format of the anime and the release date have not been revealed yet. Kenji Kamiyama (Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex) and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) will cooperate for the direction.
Last September, Kamiyama had stated that he would like to report new information about Ghost in the Shell in the near future in response to a fan’s question about the possibility of a third season for the Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime series.
Production I.G was responsible for the production of both Mamoru Oshii’s films, Ghost in the Shell and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence, and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex anime series with the OVAs. The first Ghost in the Shell film was released in 1995 and Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence premiered in 2004. In 2002, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex series was released, while Ghost in the Shell Arise prequel OVA followed in 2013, which was later remixed into a television series. More recently, a new movie titled Ghost In The Shell: The New Movie premiered in 2015 and this year, the Ghost in the Shell VR Diver smartphone video was released.
The live-action film premiered on March 16 at Shinjuku (Tokyo), Japan and today, April 7, will open in theaters in the wider country.
