Cowboy Bebop gets US live-action TV series
Entertainment news magazine Variety and entertainment news website Deadline announced that the Cowboy Bebop television anime (1998) will be adapted into a live-action TV series. The production will be handled by Tomorrow Studios, which is a collaboration between the producer Marty Adelstein (Prison Break, Teen Wolf) and ITV Studios.
Sunrise studio, which created the original anime series, will collaborate with Tomorrow Studios and become the executive producer of the live-action series.
Marty Adelstein stated: “We are excited to work with Sunrise in bringing this beloved anime to the U.S. and global marketplace as a live-action series. The animated version has long resonated with audiences worldwide, and with the continued, ever growing, popularity of anime, we believe a live action version will have an incredible impact today.”
Sunrise originally planned to work with 20th Century Fox for a Cowboy Bebop live-action film, starring Keanu Reeves as Spike Spiegel. The announcement was made in 2008 and the film is still in progress. According to the director of the original anime, Shinichiro Watanabe, he believes that the project hasn't come to a stop, but it is unknown how it will proceed from now on, hearing that there are several "Hollywood" problems. On the other hand, Keanu Reeves said in 2013 that "Cowboy Bebop does not seem to happen with me in it."
