Good news coming for Free! anime, since in 2017, new films will be released. Kyoto Animation had revealed last August that a new project is being prepared for the franchise, without giving details. During an event held on Sunday in Tokyo for the High Speed! -Free! Starting Days- anime film, it was announced that two anime compilation films and a brand new theatrical anime project are coming.

The first of the two compilation films will be titled Free! Timeless Medley Kizuna (Bonds) and will premiere on April 22, while the second one will be titled Free! Timeless Medley Yakusoku (Promise) and will be screened on July 1. The first film will focus on Iwatobi Swim Club members and the second will focus on Rin and Sousuke. Both films will include new footage.

The new theatrical anime project that will be released, is titled Free! Take Your Marks and will be a sequel to Free! Timeless Medley. The story will take place in early spring, as Haruka is about to graduate from high school. The film will open this fall.

The first Free! anime series premiered in July 2013. The second season titled Free! Eternal Summer followed in July 2014, while the High Speed! -Free! Starting Days- film premiered in December 2015.
