Fairy Tail's manga may end soon, but the anime returns in 2018. The news were spread by the manga creator Hiro Mashima on his official Twitter account. Moreover, he said in English "The Final Season of FAIRY TAIL TV anime will go on air in 2018!".

The most recent prequel television Fairy Tail anime was released in 2016 and was titled Fairy Tail Zero. The first TV series based on Mashima's manga premiered in 2009, and the second season followed in 2014. In 2012, the first anime film titled The Fairy Tail the Movie: Phoenix Priestess, was released, which was a sequel to the series. The latest film titled The Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry premiered last May in Japan. The manga has also inspired two OVAs, the first of which was released in 2011, while the second one titled Fairy Tail the Movie: Prologue - The First Morning aired in 2013.

Last May, Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine stated that there were still 10 chapters for the manga to end.
