KAO=S Appears at Fighting-Musical “魔界/MAKAI”
Japanese art rock band KAO=S (pronounced “chaos”) performed on the stage of Fighting- Musical "MAKAI" in Tokyo on August 19th. "MAKAI" is a new type of entertainment show, which mixes music, pro-wrestling and theater. KAO=S collaborated with pro-wrestlers, actors and other musicians in the ring.
KAO=S played five of their own songs and two of MAKAI's theme songs. KAO=S's vocalist Kaori Kawabuchi also acted and did a sword performance, while Shamisen player Jack had an instrument battle with eight string guitarist ISAO, band member of BABY METAL, which was well loved by the audience. Jack also used the four stringed, fretted musical instrument "Yomisen" that he invented. The Yomisen has a unique sound.
Japanese TV station Tokyo MX broadcast this event on August 25th. KAO=S's interview and performance appeared on the TV program.
KAO=S is Japanism Art Rock Band, which consists of the members: Kaori “Lady Samurai” Kawabuchi (Vocal and Sword performance), Jack (Tsugaru Shamisen) and Shuji Yamagiri (Acoustic Guitar and Vocal). KAO=S was founded in Tokyo, in April 2011. Out of the turmoil that followed the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, the band distilled a new style of Japanese art to bring to the world, which is called ‘chaos’ or, following the Japanese pronunciation, KAO=S (‘Kah-oss’). KAO=S’ s sound is a blend of vocals and acoustic guitar, overlaid with traditional Japanese instruments, such as the three-string Tsugaru shamisen, using a full range of effects.
