Rurouni Kenshin creator charged with child pornography
47-year-old Nobuhiro Watsuki (real name Nobuhiro Nishiwaki), creator of the manga Rurouni Kenshin, was arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Thursday, 21 November, for child pornography possession. According to the authorities, Watsuki possessed numerous DVDs with nude footage of young girls in their early teens, which were kept in an office in Tokyo since October.
In his deposition, Watsuki allegedly said that he "liked girls in late elementary school to around the second year of middle school".
Authorities conducted an investigation at Watsuki's home as part of a different investigation, which linked him to the purchase of DVDs with child pornography. The charge against the well-known mangaka alleges that he possessed pornographic videos from July 2015. Possession of child pornography entails imprisonment for up to one year and a fine of up to 1 million yen.
According to the latest news, Shueisha publishing company announced that Nobuhiro Watsuki's new Rurouni Kenshin: Hokkaido Arc manga will go on hiatus until further notice.
