Mythical Creatures: Dullahan
Truth be told, Dullahan, originating from Ireland, is neither the most bloodthirsty nor the most frightening creature you will find in the international folklore pantheon. Actually, he does remind us of a more harmless Headless Horseman. The resemblance gets stronger if we consider the fact that neither nor posses a head.
Well, Dullahan usually holds his head under his armpit, which is very admirable, considering the state of said head –as we have it pictured in various descriptions: in the latest states of decomposition, with black, all-seeing eyes and a huge grin spreading, literally, from ear to ear (Joker? Is that you?)
All in all, the head can be used other than just a prop. As a torch, basically, since Dullahan holds it in his hand to shed some light if he ever finds himself in a grim position. (We must give that to the head, it holds several utilities…)
How to know Dulahhan is coming your way
- You will be a hundred percent sure when you see him standing there, on his horse, in the middle of one of the many valleys of Greece. (Verified sources confirm that the rider prefers the fiord, though, so you must be safe…)
- If your windows and doors start opening and closing all of a sudden. It is said (from other sources…) that his power is such that makes all gates open (So we presume that every open door you’ll ever cross will have been kept open by the Dullahan.)
Means of Transport.
Dullahan surely uses a less trivial vehicle than your every-day, common Ferrari. He has been seen riding his luxurious cart, made of human bones and flesh, at Kifisia Boulevard.
When he doesn’t wish to strike paparazzis’ attention, he rides solo on his horse that breathes discreet flames from his nostrils, and whips it with a whip made of –what else- a human spine.
A Short Survival Guide to Dullahan
1) Don’t you ever stop wherever you suspect Dullahan stopped! You will die at once!
[ To avoid a sudden death from Dullahan sighting, forward Greek Otaku Radio’s Link to ten of your friends, or else Dullahan will say your name and you will die. Again.]
2)Vampires fear of garlic and holly water. Werewolves of silver bullets. Dullahan, on the other hand, fears of eminent glaring and gold offerings. Tenderly look into his eyes as you hand him an ounce of gold. He will vanish at once!
