Interview with Satsuki
SATSUKI is an evolving artist and has already proven it. About two years ago, his brand S.T.K.M. was born, leaving the best impressions. Now, the new web shop is open, adding accessories designed by SATSUKI himself! Some of them are unique and already sold out. Moreover, his new single titled ZERO was released on December 27. Let's learn more about S.T.K.M. and ZERO.
Hello Satsuki! It’s so nice to have you back on G.O. Radio! Back in 2016, Greek fans had the opportunity to see your amazing live performance. At that time, your most recent release was your album “EPOCALIPSE”. Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot about your activities regarding your jewelry brand “S.T.K.M.” and your single “ZERO”, so we’d like some more details!
What kind of jewelry does the “S.T.K.M.” brand have? Do they belong to a particular style, or can they be worn by anyone, at any time?
Hello G.O., it’s great to hear from you again.
I think STKM accessories does not belong to some specific “style” as you say.
Every item is designed and created piece by piece by me, connecting different parts that I have gathered while I was on tour in different countries. Every piece has different story and meaning for me. Some pieces mean a lot to each country I got them from and some others are just symbolic but nicely designed. All final accessories come from a Japanese mind and the parts from all over world. I would say this is a Universal style.
For me those accessories are not for specific time or place. It is up to anyone to use and wear them as they want. This is a free world and there is not tag like accessory for night, casual, or accessory of Goth, Visual Kei, etc. For example I have a person who got my NEXUS pendant and made it ear piercing, this is what I respect a lot. A creative spirit with no limits.
In most of your designs, there are crosses, wings or skulls. What do these symbols mean to you? What inspires you to design these pieces?
As I said, I am gathering symbols and signs with interesting design that I feel I can create something beautiful when I connect one with the other.
The moment I see a piece I know how I want to make the design and use it. I never looked for specific symbols. This is why in one piece you see a lot of symbols from crystals to stars and crosses or even skulls. Every piece have a name according to the basic item, which was the reason to create it. “Night Wing” for example is named like that because of the black crystals, like the night, and a gold wing. My inspiration comes from music and from my inner sense and feeling. I create what I would like for me to wear.
Out of the current “S.T.K.M.” collection, which piece is your favourite and why?
Easy to say. It’s NEXSUS, this pendant is my favourite. Because it is a very personal symbol, you can see more of it if you check the web shop. I explain its meaning there. It’s something I wear at my daily life.
What are your plans for “S.T.K.M.”? Will we be seeing any new designs coming out soon?
The renewal and restart of the store, with the addition of accessories, started very recently and for now I just want to see how people react to each design, what they like most or not and improve it more and more. I am happy to see people who get those items and share how much they love them and wear them with joy. It makes me feel happy. For those who follow the store it’s easy to see that there is an addition of a new design almost every 2 weeks. I take it slow for now because I am in middle of recording so time is limited.
Now, moving on to your music activities. We’ve read that ZERO was inspired by the constant conflicts between people around the world. What exactly do you mean by that? What are the conflicts you mentioned?
Yes, ZERO was inspired by the conflict and the negative energy of this world. There are of course so many types of different conflict and for every one of us this word has different meaning. For some, conflict is in a form of fight with friends or lover, for some others is war or standing against a corrupt system, different genders or styles. There is conflict in almost everything. I cannot name all of them. It will take forever. This song is created to be the voice of weak, the shout against all negativity and the music that will make you want to fight back against all odds and be strong again. It’s a song to help you recharge power and if needed, start from ZERO.
How would you describe the sound of your single? Have you experimented with any new sounds?
The song was inspired by my world tour so it has a lot of elements from countries that had an impact on me while touring. I chose to experiment with elements of ethnic melody. And the reason is because during all my transits, I had to stay at stops for a long time in Middle East and the world there seems so different and so mysterious. The atmosphere of this melody was so impressive for me.
Your new single dropped at Dec. 27! What do you plan to do afterwards? Are any tours or more releases in your future plans?
ZERO will be the starting point song to my upcoming music that will be released in 2018. So, after the release I am fully focused on finishing the album that I work on already. When this album is finished, of course I would love to make another tour around the world and I have already some plans that I will share later so stay tuned to my media and you will find out!
