Hunter x Hunter is a favorite manga that has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine since March 1998. Success didn’t take long to come, as in a short period of time, it has become one of Shueisha's best-selling manga series, having sold over 65.800.000 copies in Japan alone as of February 2013. Moreover, in 1999 the first anime series was released by Nippon Animation, which ran until 2001, while in October 2011 the second one was launched by Madhouse production and completed in September 2014.

Despite this great success, since 2006 the manga has frequently gone into hiatuses, some of them quite long. There have been several times that Yoshihiro Togashi apologized to its readers not only for the hiatuses, but also for low quality artwork.

Currently, the manga is in hiatus since 2014 with the latest volume published in December 2012. The ongoing break is due to Togashi’s health reasons that didn’t improve as planned. This has disappointed a lot of readers, because the previous break started in March 2012 and ended in June 2014. Let's take a look at the following charts.

The first chart shows the hiatuses of manga through the issues of Weekly Shounen Jump from 1998 to 2016. The red color shows the hiatuses. 

In the following graph the arcs of the manga are indicated, each of them with a different color, showing where the longest breaks occurred. Hiatuses are shown in light gray color and are jokingly referred as the "Great Hiatus Arc". As illustrated from the graph, the larger breaks took place during Chimera Ant arc. 

The longer hiatus has lasted 79 issues, while the current one is counting already 76 issues. As may be seen from the following statistics, the longest publication streak was 30 issues. 

Since 1998, Weekly Shounen Jump has published a total number of 868 issues, 351 of which Hunter x Hunter is found. In other words, it is absent from 517 issues.
