Live-action film for Gintama
It is now undeniable that 2016 is the year of adaptations of popular anime series in live-action films. This time, the news come for Gintama. The 31th issue of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump is to announce on Monday that Hideaki Sorachi’s Gintama manga will be transferred to the big screen in a live-action film.
The leading role of Gintoki Sakata will take Shun Oguri (live-action Space Brothers, Lupin III, Terraformars), while Yūichi Fukuda (live-action HK / Hentai Kamen, Mr. Nietzsche in the Convenience Store) will take over the direction and the movie script.
Gintama was launched in 2004 and it is ranked among the top-selling manga in Japan. A few months ago it was announced that this year the manga would enter its final arc, however, is still unknown whether it will end in 2016 or next year.
Two television anime series have been based on the manga, the first of which aired in 2006 and was completed in 2013 and the second one premiered in April 2015 and was completed in March. Two anime films, OVAs and events were also inspired.
