Voice actor Kazunari Tanaka passes away
Unfortunately, on Tuesday October 11, the talent agency Aoni Production announced on its official website that the voice actor Kazunari Tanaka passed away on Monday October 10 at the age of 49. The cause of his death was a hemorrhage in his brain stem.
Kazunari Tanaka was born on April 8th 1967. He entered the agency after he graduated from its vocational program, Aoni Jyuku. His first main role was Katsuya Kimura in Jigoku Sensei Nube. He is well known for giving his voice to Keishin Ukai in Haikyuu!!, Hachirota Hoshino in Planetes, Shinichiro Tamaki in Code Geass: Hangyaku no Lelouch, Orson White in Mobile Suit Gundam Seed Destiny, Inuyama in Air Gear and Tsutomu Rokutanda in Marmalade Boy. He has also voiced over minor roles in Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon Crystal, Bleach, Detective Conan, Gintama, One Piece, Slam Dunk and Sword Art Online.
Apart from anime, he gave his voice to characters from games such as Tamami Kobayashi in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Eyes of Heaven and Junya Kaneshiro in Persona 5, while in Japan he was loved for his role as Kenai from Disney's Brother Bear 2. But voice acting wasn't his only talent. He used to be a guitarist for the band called "Lost & Found".
There has not been an announcement about who is going to take over his role, Keishin Ukai, in Haikyuu!!. The producers have stated that since it is sudden, they will make adjustments for the future. Furthermore, the performance entitled “Buddy Bear presents Kuma no Yu Sonic”, which is scheduled to show on October 22nd and the voice actor participated, has been cancelled.
